Fall 2011

Fall 2011  Special Olympics Flagler County would like to congratulate our athlete of the month Calvin Maddox and Unified Partner of the Month, Emily Orozco.

Calvin Maddox has been with Special Olympics Flagler County for a little over 2 years.  Calvin has participated in Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Cylcing and Power lifting winning several ribbons in competitions in County and Area levels.  We are extremely proud of Calvin because he’s had to struggle through alcoholism.  Calvin has been sober for 2 years now and that has been his biggest accomplishment.  Calvin is doing extremely well in Power lifting coming in first place in his weight division, lifting in the Combo 3 (bench, dead lift and squat) 735 lbs.  WOW!!! That’s simply Amazing!

Emily Orozco is our Unified Partner of the Month.  Emily joined Special Olympics Flagler County with her athlete and  brother Matthew Orozco for Track and Field, making it to the 2011 State Summer Games this past May.  Although the weather didn’t hold out for Matthew and Emily to compete in their relay, that didn’t stop Emily and her brother Matthew from coming back.  This time they joined us for bowling in a Unified Doubles team winning First place in County and at Area Bowling this past September.

Both Emily and Calvin are great additions to our Family of Athletes and Unified Partners that make up Flagler County Special Olympics TEAM.
